Ten Years Gone By

Can't recognize a single face.
Ten years I've been away from here,
Thought I'd find what I left behind.
But the town died while I was chasing all those dreams that pulled me far.
Now I'm back, but nothing's waiting,
Just these wounds and battle scars.
All my people scattered to the wind,
And I'm a stranger where I grew up in.
Used to be a hundred reasons to believe this place would never change.
Now the pain is cracked and fading,
Everything feels cold and strange.
Called my brother from a payphone, he said,
"Don't bother coming around." Everybody left who could leave here,
Searching for some better ground.
