Heavy Rain

The road felt sealed, my pulse found a key; you said,
"Come on,
Come run with me." Then the clouds came down like a sheep pulled over; I heard my name in the runoff.
Hold me closer,
Let it lift me; watch the grid off and unhook me.
Your hand in mine on the ferry deck, gray water heaving,
No looking back.
It's like a small fish slid into the flood,
Left in the silt with the street sign up.
Then the sky came loose over bottles and bones; I felt your heart make a place like home.
Hold me closer,
Let it lift me; watch the grid off and unhook me.
