Coins and Distance

Through the sweat and tired heads.
Two shifts down, my body breaks,
But love is stronger than the ache.
I send it home across the land,
Until I hold them hand in hand.
Counting coins and counting time,
Till they're yours and you are mine.
The seconds shift, the night rolls in,
I'm tired but I start again.
The machines hum, their steady song, I sing along,
It keeps me strong.
I write the numbers, watch them grow,
Each one brings me closer.
I know to the moment when I step through that door and feel like myself once more.
